Why streaming is not interesting to viewers
I streamed on Youtube a couple of times, and the viewcount is as expected. The only ones succeeding seem to be jumping on new games quickly to get the few first initial views where nobody else got there before. I.e. jumping the embargo dance. If you are in an established space, the suggestion by Youtube algorithm will still mean when your stream is opened the viewer will see that he is the only one.
I have seen some very well prepared streams, they were viewed by 5 people only, the voices in the background were reasonable, the content interesting enough. THERE WAS NO SOCIAL PROOF. Social proof is key, otherwise no streamer will succeed.
There was a very successfull Gran Turismo racer I used to follow. Top 10 in the online races at that time, not an easy feat to achieve. His work has fizzled out. A few reasons: NOT A NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER. I.e. unattractive to pretty much anyone, but core enthusiasts.
Reason no 2: he was so good at racing he was not engaging enough. Comments in the chat got missed, and I personally got tired of supporting him.
Every mention of every viewer gets you SOCIAL PROOF. Spoken by a viewer. :)
Until next time.
